Introducing The Nonesuch Rowing Foundation

Over its history the UBBC Alumni & Friends has offered support to UBBC in the shape of several significant fundraising projects; most notably for the new Saltford Boathouses which were opened in 2014, and more recently in the shape of thousands of pounds worth of boats, blades, ergs, equipment, and grants for student participation in rowing. In 2019 we set out our vision for how the UBBC Alumni & Friends would continue to support UBBC through 2019 and beyond. An important part of our vision was to establish an independent charitable entity to place us on an even stronger standing for continuing our support to rowing at Bristol for future generations.

After a many months of hard work by the UBBC Alumni & Friends Committee and our new Trustees (not helped by a large pandemic-shaped speed bump encountered along the way!), we are very pleased to be able to introduce you to The Nonesuch Rowing Foundation; an independent UK-registered charity with the purpose of encouraging participation in rowing for students at the University of Bristol and Bristol’s community.

The Nonesuch Rowing Foundation will fulfil these aims by providing grants to the University of Bristol Boat Club for the purchase of boats and equipment, and by providing grants to students from low-income backgrounds to allow them to participate in rowing.

Going forward, we will encourage new supporters of UBBC to donate to the Nonesuch Rowing Foundation - new supporters will be able to do so via new online donation pages on a dedicated part of our website.

For existing donors who donate by Direct Debit, we hope to update the recipient of your donations via our online payment platform, GoCardless. More details will follow in a separate email.

There are clear benefits to operating as a charity, not least the fundraising advantages that come with tax-efficient giving, and this will be a significant milestone in our long history of supporting rowing at Bristol.

We’re currently in the process of updating our website and donation platforms, but if you would like to know more about the Nonesuch Rowing Foundation in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for your ongoing and generous support.

Best wishes,

The Nonesuch Rowing Foundation Trustees & The UBBC Alumni & Friends Committee
