Apply for an Individual Grant

Grant Scheme Information

One way the Nonesuch Rowing Foundation widens access to and encourages participation in rowing is by offering grants to students at the University of Bristol and members of Bristol’s community. These grants are intended for individuals whose participation in rowing would otherwise be limited by the associated personal financial costs to the participant.

The types of activities that these funds are intended for include, but are not limited to; training camp costs, transport/accommodation/race fees for a major event such as EUSA/GB Rowing Team Trials/BR Sculling Festival, and essential club racing kit.

Applicants should ensure they have read and understood our Grant Making Policy before applying.

  • Applications will be considered during four application rounds in 2023. The deadlines for applications in each of the rounds are below.

    2023/A: 26 January 2024

    2023/B: 12 April 2024

    2023/C: 31 May 2024

    2023/D: 18 October 2024

Applicants may submit an application at any time, but it will only be considered following the deadline for the next application round. The application form will be available to view all year round to allow applicants to prepare their applications.

  • University of Bristol students are eligible to apply for a Nonesuch Rowing Foundation Individual Grant if they are in receipt of a University of Bristol Bursary. Students or other individuals who are in receipt of other financial assistance may also be eligible but will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We are unable to award grants retrospectively for payments which have already been made by the applicant.

    1. Read our Grant Making Policy and the guidance above carefully to check you are eligible to apply for a grant. Prospective applicants are welcome to contact us directly, or via your coach, with any queries.

    2. Complete the online application form below, taking care to complete all sections accurately.

    3. Submit your application before the deadline for an application round. Once submitted, the trustees will request a supporting statement from your coach.

    4. Once your coach’s supporting statement has been received the trustees will review your application according to the principles set out in our Grant Making Policy.

    5. The trustees will communicate the outcome of the application via email. Make sure to check your email spam folder! If the application is successful, you will be asked to provide your bank account details for payment. You’ll also be asked to provide receipts for the costs covered by the grant.

    6. If your application is unusual or more difficult for the trustees to assess, it may take longer for us to let you know the outcome. If your application is unsuccessful we’ll try our best to provide useful feedback.

    1. Don’t leave your application to the last minute! Make sure you submit your application before you know you need grant funding. Speak to the coaches and committee if you need to know costs of specific events or items of kit in advance of an application deadline.

    2. Tell us how participating in rowing has a real impact on your personal development, whether that’s through rowing itself or contributing to the running of the club. The trustees want to see you’ve put in some careful thought. You don’t have to aspire to row internationally - think about what your personal goals and career ambitions are and how your participation in rowing contributes to those.

    3. Provide a clear breakdown of the costs to be covered by the grant. If you’re applying for a grant to cover the costs of attendance at a rowing event, separate out the costs of accommodation, travel, race fees, etc. If you’re applying for a grant to cover the costs of kit, separate out the costs of each item.

    4. If you think your application may be unusual or more difficult for the trustees to assess, speak to us first. You can contact us directly, or ask us a question via your coaches.

COnfidentiality

The existence of your application and the information contained within it will be treated in confidence. Your permission will be sought before your application is discussed with anyone outside of the Nonesuch Rowing Foundation Trustees, UBBC Head Coach or UBBC Development Coach.
